Belviq, Belviq XR and Lorcasern victims
Belviq Resources Overview
Attorneys at the Bodden and Bennett Law Group are reviewing the claims of people diagnosed with cancer after taking Belviq, Belviq XR, or another brand of lorcaserin.
About the Belviq Lawsuit
A popular prescription weight-loss drug made by Eisai Inc., Belviq (generic name lorcaserin) curbs hunger in people with obesity and other weight-related health issues. In an alarming report, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) concluded that the drug might raise the risk of various types of cancer, including pancreatic, lung, and colorectal cancer. In response, the FDA recalled Belviq fully in February 2020.
What Are the Risks of Taking Belviq?
Unfortunately, Belviq is not an exception to the rule when it comes to weight-loss drugs being unsafe. Those taking Belviq were more likely to develop cancer than those taking a placebo (sugar pill) during a five-year, double-blind study. In its report, the FDA stated, “A variety of cancer types have been reported, with multiple types occurring more frequently with lorcaserin.” These include:
- Pancreatic cancer
- Colorectal cancer
- Lung cancer
We need to hold the manufacturers responsible for allowing this drug to be on the market. Anyone who suffers from cancer due to Belviq deserves compensation.

FAQ
Is Belviq being recalled by the FDA?
Yes. An FDA request was made to Eisai in February 2020 that the company withdraw all Belviq and Belviq XR products from the market. The company complied with the request.
Do I need to stop taking Belviq?
If you are taking Belviq, you should stop and consult your healthcare provider about safer alternatives.
Who Can File a Belviq Lawsuit?
A person diagnosed with cancer who took Belviq or its generic equivalent should consider bringing legal action against the drug’s manufacturer. You may have a case if you meet these criteria:
- Over 18 years of age
- A cancer diagnosis after taking Belviq, Belviq XR, or another LOCASerin product
- We can also help if a loved one took this weight loss drug and was diagnosed with cancer
In a Belviq lawsuit, what can I recover?
While every case is different, people who successfully file a medical device or drug lawsuit can claim the following damages:
- The cost of past and future medical care (including medication, hospital stays, and home care).
- Pain and suffering
- Lost wages
- The loss of earning capacity
- Funeral expenses (in the event of the death of a loved one)
- In general, a plaintiff may be entitled to compensation for the costs of their cancer diagnosis in the past and in the future
